The National Pike District proudly sponsors a number of local district events and projects that give our boys and their families opportunities for fun, learning, and service to the community.
First and second year Webelos will discover the fun and adventure of Boy Scouting at The National Pike District Webelos-O-Ree.
Packs and Dens camp and cook just like Boy Scouts, and match their skills with other Dens and Packs in the District on the trail to adventure and learning.
We have hosted this premier event for more than ten years, and it typically has more than 800 participants. Two trails circumnavigate the camp, each with over a dozen activity stations. Campfire programs and more fun awaits.
Cubmasters, Den Leaders and Parents!
This is an event you do not want your Webelos to miss.
Visit the Webelos-O-Ree pages on Troop 851's website
or watch the headlines on this website for announcements.
Each February, The Mall in Columbia hosts Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venture Crews from all over Howard County for the 2009 Mall Show. Individual local units will have exhibits showing off some of their coolest activities, gear, and crafts. Try your hand at some of the demonstrations as you talk to members and leaders. You may be surprised to learn you can get involved with Search & Rescue, Scuba, or many other really exciting activities. Find out just what fun scouting is.
At the center of it all is the District Pine Wood Derby competition. Dozens of awesome precision racing machines, hand-crafted by the scouts themselves, compete for bragging rights in separate speed and design competitions. Hear the quiet roar of plastic wheels clattering against a wooden track as the cars fly (hopefully down the track) towards the finish line. Be inspired by scouts' unique car designs, from the beautifully crafted, to the whimsical, to the creatively interpreted abstracts.
For more than 20 years, Scouts of all ages in our Council have collected food to help the 45,000 families who depend on the generosity of their neighbors to help them feed their children during tough times.
Most units distribute bags to homes across Howard County and neighbors fill the bags with nonperishable food, and set the filled bags out for Scouts to pick-up. Other units make arrangements to collect food at local stores.
The annual Scouting For Food campaign is usually held in February and March, with planning and unit registration in January.
Watch the announcements and calendar on this website for dates of this year's campaign.
Three Exciting Klondike Trails
• Cub Scout Trail
• Boy Scout Trail
• High Adventure Trail
Goldrush Adventure for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouters, Parents and Siblings.
On August 17, 1896 Skookum Jim and Taglish Charlie, members of the Taglish First Nations People prospected for gold with George Carmack along Rabbit Creek, Yukon Territory. Legend has it that Carmack was led to the glimmering gold after dreaming of a king salmon fish with gold nuggets in its eyes!
Whatever the inspiration that day, gold was found in Klondike streams in the Yukon Territory. Soon thousands followed beginning the great Klondike Goldrush of 1896 launching an era of rogues, scoundrels, entrepreneurs, and a few millionaires!
Over 1100 Scouts from the National Pike District use the Klondike Derby to learn and demonstrate scouting skills in a winter setting. They also graduate from Klondike Cheechako (tenderfoot) to an experienced Sourdough while learning about the brave men and women who lived in those exciting times. They also learn the Golden Rule of the Klondike: “Do as you would be done by.”
Cub Scout Trail Features
Fun, games, history, snowshoeing, sled skills, rope climbing, teambuilding, monkey bridge climb, Klondike mail delivery, travel in wilderness conditions, lifesaving skills at sea, food storage when camping, songs, panning for gold and Klondike personalities.
Boy Scout Trail and
Adventure Trail Features

The annual NATIONAL PIKE FISHING TOURNAMENT is a "catch and release"- from the shoreline- tournament.
BRING YOUR OWN BUCKET TO TRANSPORT FISH TO WEIGH STATION.
This is a really fun event at the park for all scouts.
All participants must be currently registered Scouts or Scouter (adult) in the National Pike District.
If siblings or adults fish they must be registered. Siblings can only contribute to pack\troop totals
they are not eligible for the individual trophies.
All fishing must take place from the shore. No fishing from boats or with waders is allowed. The
Buddy System is to be followed throughout the tournament. No adults should fish alone with an
individual Scout, other than their own child. Adults and Scouts are encouraged to help needy
Scouts whenever appropriate.
Trophies will be awarded to the top 10 fish caught by Scouts and the top 1 fish caught by
Scouters.

This website serves the needs of three audiences:
Besides providing basic announcments, contacts, and an event calendar, the website provides the capabilities listed below. Please take a few minutes to become familiar with what this website can do for you or your pack, troop or crew.
Got a suggestion? How about a really big idea? Send us an email.
On the NationaPike.org website, we are offering an RSS, - thats Really Simple Syndication, - an RSS Headline feed. With this, your unit website can automatically display headlines in a box from the announcements on the NationalPike.org website. When the user clicks on a headline, they are taken to the article on NationalPike.org. When NationalPike.org posts a new article, the headline automatically shows up on your website.
Method 1: You can display National Pike Headlines on any web page by including the following HTML snippit:
<iframe src ="http://nationalpike.org/np_announce_box_ext.php" width="40%" align=left frameborder=0 height=100% scrolling=no> </iframe>
This will produce the headlines in a box similar to that on the NationalPike.org home page.
Method 2: If your website software can display RSS/XML feeds directly, the URL for the NationalPike.org RSS feed is:
http://nationalpike.org/headlines/feed
or
http://www.nationalpike.org/headlines/feed
If you use this feature on your unit website, we would appreciate it if you send a courtesy note to the webmaster at NationalPike.org
iCalendar is a standard data format for exchanging information about meetings and events between different calendar programs, PDAs, cell phones, etc. Most programs that have planning calendars can import an iCal file.
One iCal file may represent a single meeting, a whole month of events, or a whole year of events. You will find an icon
for downloading an iCal file at the bottom of every Day, Month, or Year view of the Calendar on this website. You may also find an icon on some announcments.
The iCal file may not be comaptible with all calendar programs. Importing/opening it twice may or may not result in duplicate events on your calendar.
We cannot provide tech support for any problems you may have, but we would appreciate a note to webmaster@nationalpike.org if you find it is incompatible with your favorite calendar program. Please include the version number of your program. We will post a warning list here of incompatible programs.
